Pregnancy Guide, What Type of Infection Occur During Pregnancy? ~ Pregnancy Guide

Thursday, May 21, 2015

An infection occurs when a micro-organism invades a cell of the body and causes it to change. This triggers a response from the immune system, the body’s form of protection that directs cells to attack the invader. The result can be symptoms of the infection, such as redness, pain, heat, and swelling, and the development of antibodies, special protein molecules formed in the blood to combat a specific infection. You will not be aware of these antibodies, but you can be tested for them to see whether you have been exposed to a disease. Once you have made antibodies, you are immune to getting the disease in the future.

Infections can range from a mild cold or flu-like illness to a serious, life-threatening disease. Although a cold or flu is usually not serious to the mother or fetus, you should not treat them yourself with over-the-counter medications. Instead, consult your doctor if you have symptoms.

You can be vaccinated against some infections, but certain types of vaccines are not safe during pregnancy. A vaccine contains a small amount of either the same organism that causes the infection or an organism that is similar to the infecting agent. The amount is just enough to cause antibodies to form and make you immune but not enough to make you ill. The best protection against infections is to avoid being exposed to them before and during pregnancy. If you think you have been exposed to an infection, inform your doctor right away. Sometimes steps can be taken to avoid serious problems and lower the risk to your body. There are some infection....

1. Childhood Diseases  2. Chickenpox  3.Fifth Disease  4. Rubella (German Measles)
5. Mumps  6. Cytomegalovirus  7.Hepatitis  8. Lyme Disease  9. Sexually Transmitted Diseases 10. Toxoplasmosis  11.Urinary Tract Infection

1. Childhood Diseases: Certain infections are thought of as childhood diseases but they also occur in adults and it can cause serious problems in pregnant women.

2. Chickenpox:  Chickenpox is caused by varicella-zoster virus. Adults who get chickenpox usually have more severe illness than children do.

3.Fifth Disease:  Fifth disease is so called because it was the fifth to be discovered among a group of diseases that cause fever and skin rash in children. It is caused by human parvovirus B19.

4. Rubella (German Measles): The type that has the most severe effects during pregnancy is caused by rubella virus and is known as German Measles.

5. Mumps: Mums may also cause preterm labor.  Because this infection is so rare during pregnancy, it is not clear whether it is linked to birth defects.

6. Cytomegalovirus: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is hard to detect because those who have it often do not have symptoms. CMV infection poses a problem during pregnancy and the postpartum period, when it can be passed to the baby through the placenta, the vagina, or breast milk.

7.Hepatitis: Hepatitis is a viral infection that affects the liver. Two forms of Hepatitis are commonly identified: type A and type B. [details here]

8. Lyme Disease: Lyme disease is caused by a bite from an infected tick. When the tick bites, it injects bacteria into the body that cause disease.

9. Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Sexually transmitted diseases are the most common infectious diseases in the United States except for colds and flu.

10. Toxoplasmosis: Toxoplasmosis human can become infected by eating raw or undercooked meat, especially lamb or mutton, or coming into contact with cat faces.

11.Urinary Tract Infection: Urinary tract infection are common in pregnancy. Severe infections can cause problems for both mother and fetus.
